Much of the excitement surrounding the new Xbox can be directly attributed to the next-gen Kinect sensor. Building off what the original Kinect started this takes NUI (natural user interaction) to the next level. From natural speech recognition to more accurate facial recognition and more detailed body motion capture. Kinect has been improved so much it's almost unfair to compare with the original incarnation. In this article let's go over what we know.

Released in a couple of days, you can get a taste for Ubisoft's new Raving Rabbids title Alive and Kicking now. Featuring a group of mini games with a focus on augmented reality, you can try it out on your Xbox 360 via the marketplace, or by queuing the download online here.
If Dance Central 2 isn't quite quenching your thirst for some rock and roll jiving, you can now try out Grease Dance featuring songs from the movie and era that you can dance and sing along to. Queue the download online here, or check it out on your 360 via the marketplace.
And finally if you want to get a better sense of what exactly Deepak Chopra's Leela is, you can try it out for yourself. Engage your chakras, develop a flow state and express your essence on the Xbox Live Marketplace or, once again, queue the download online here.
As is the case with all Xbox 360 demo's, the downloads are exclusive to Gold subscribers only for the first week. Everyone else will have to wait until next week to try them out!
Sequels to two of Kinect's most successful titles are out within the next fortnight and you can try them both out now. The demo's for Kinect Sports Season 2 and Dance Central 2 are available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers (they'll be free to download next week for Silver users).

The long awaited sequel to one of Kinect's biggest titles launches in less than a week. Dance Central 2 hits stores 21st October in Europe and 25th October in the US and it looks like Harmonix are raising the bar once again for dancing games.
Dance Central 2, the sequel to Harmonix's first Kinect offering, is an impressive update and solidifies the series as a first-rate franchise. The mainstays of the original return with polished tutorials; expanded features like personalized playlists; an even richer song selection (now you can finally "Get Your Freak On" to some Missy Elliott); and an intelligently designed two-player mode. Major Nelson has revealed the line-up for Xbox 360 & Kinect at this years Tokyo Game Show, and as well as the unveiling of Diabolic Pitch we reported earlier today, we're going to get a glimpse at several other upcoming Kinect games.
Grounding Inc. will show off Project Draco for the first time to the media. From the makers of the Panzer Dragoon franchise, the games unveiling is much anticipated after its announcement at last years show. Although it's unclear if this will be exclusively a behind-doors presentation, or if it'll be made public, we'll no doubt be able to read all about it soon and hopefully get our first glance at gameplay.
From the creators of Parappa The Rappa, NanaOn-Sha, Haunt was another title revealed at last years show, but we have yet to see any gameplay. This year the game will be playable, so we can expect plenty of gameplay previews and video footage.
Kinect Sports Season 2 will show off more of Baseball, as well as the debut of Downhill Skiing and the new Challenge Play mode, and Dance Central 2 will be there with 7 new tracks:

Harmonix once again attended PAX this year with their own panel and a strong focus on Dance Central 2. Their Q&A, which you can watch in full here, also focused on the future of the Rock Band franchise.
With little direction to take the genre aside from additional songs, and slowing sales preventing typical yearly iterations of the game, Harmonix asked fans what they want out of a future title and one of the suggestions was a Dance Central and Rock Band mash-up. Although there may be liscensing issues with that specific idea, Harmonix are certainly not ruling out a Kinect addition to Rock Band.
"Kinect elements in Rock Band is definitely something worth thinking about. I'm thinking about it" said Harmonix's Aaron Trites.
They also announced six new songs for Dance Central 2:

Dance Central 2 is perhaps the most anticipated Kinect game launching this fall. The sequel introduces new and revamped modes as well as simultaneous multiplayer, over 40 new songs and the ability to import all of your music from the first game.
With the game playable at Gamescom all week, Harmonix have revealed a new trailer showing the all-new cel-shaded dance crews, as well as unveiling 13 new songs for the game. New features include:
Epic Full Body Dance Battle! Players rep their favorite dance crew and go toe-to-toe against one another with two-player simultaneous tracking and compete to stand out in “spotlight sections” where their solo performance is put on display. The new Free-4-All mini-game replaces freestyle sections during Dance Battle, adding an all new competitive scoring mechanic into the mix. Players can jump ahead in score by quickly performing moves from the song worth tons of points.
Meet the crews of Dance Central 2! With the addition of simultaneous multiplayer, Dance Central 2 adds 4 dance crews to the mix for players to rep. RipTide, Hi-Def, Flash4ward and Lu$h Crew all bring fierce personalities, amazing moves and unique looks to the world of Dance Central. Whether you’re playing through the crew challenge or battling it out with a friend, you have to know: which crew are you?
Voice integration throughout the game! You can use voice commands to select songs, pause during routines, and dictate rehearsal during Break it Down. Jumping into a routine is as simple as telling Kinect the song, mode, and difficulty and instructing it do what that little box has always dreamed of: “Xbox, Dance.”
An all new, customizable Break it Down experience with improved per-limb tracking, allows players to customize practice sessions to focus on select moves. Use voice commands to speed through the process, and even compare video playback of their dancing to the on-screen dancer!

Microsoft's next wave of first party titles kicks off this October with Dance Central 2 launching October 21st. Kinect Sports Season 2 will follow just 4 days later on October 25th.
Just prior, Kinectimals will relaunch as Kinectimals With Bears -- the original game packaged with the new Bears DLC -- hitting stores October 11th.
Dates for Kinect Star Wars and Kinect Disneyland Adventures have yet to be announced, but expect them to launch around November time.
All of these games are being demonstrated this week at Gamescom in Germany, including a first glimpse at darts and tennis in Kinect Sports 2, which you can see below. A recent preview over at Xbox360Acheivments had great things to say -- "What makes Kinect Sports: Season 2’s darts so impressive is the degree of accuracy you have with the darts at your disposal. Moving your hand just a slight millimetre will move your on-screen target a slight millimetre too. It’s 'seeing is believing' stuff in all honesty, as this type of control has never really been seen in a Kinect game to-date."
The latest trailer for Ubisoft's Just Dance 3 shows off the new Just Create mode which allows users to record and create their own custom dance moves for friends to play locally, as well as via online sharing.
With 4 player local multiplayer support too, Ubisoft clearly aren't shying away from Dance Central's huge success, packing in a host of unique features. Whether that ultimately results in a better game, we'll have to wait and see.

Gamescom, the worlds largest games event, kicks off tomorrow in Germany with Microsoft's Xbox Play Day, a 3 hour event allowing the press to get hands-on time with all of the top upcoming Xbox 360 games.
We expect a Kinect-heavy showing, with new footage for games such as Kinect Sports Season 2, Kinect Disneyland Adventures, Kinect Star Wars and Dance Central 2. There will also be a new playable demo of Fable: The Journey, which will hopefully fare better than its initial outing at E3 which Molyneux described as a "horrendous mistake". We'll also likely get a better look at the new Xbox 360 dashboard launching this fall!
All of the major third party studios will be bringing their latest games too. Ubiosoft will be showing off the latest from games such as Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, The Black Eyed Peas Experience, Just Dance 3 and Rabbids: Alive and Kicking.
EA are taking the latest builds of Mass Effect 3 and The Sims 3: Pets, both of which feature Kinect support, and THQ are showing off their latest fitness title, Adidas MiCoach. Also expect the latest demo's for Rise of Nightmares and Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster.
Of course there will be more than what is currently announced and hopefully Gamescom will hold a few surprises, as usual. Check back all this week for the latest news and content!
Microsoft will be attending the San-Diego Comic-Con next week to show off some of their big upcoming games, many of which are Kinect titles. Although nothing new or major will likely be revealed, it'll give the public and press another chance to get some hands on time with the latest Kinect software, and if we're lucky there'll be a new demo or two.
Kinect Star Wars will not only be playable, but it has its own hour long panel on Thursday, July 21 at 10am PST. New gameplay will be revealed, including an all-new mode plus a special announcement which might well be a limited edition R2-D2 Xbox 360 with Kinect to coincide with the release of Kinect Star Wars.
Other Kinect games featuring at the event include Kinect Sports: Season Two, Dance Central 2, Rise of Nightmares and The Gunstringer. There will also be a Halo panel, which may or may not include details about the Kinect functionality in Halo: CE Anniversary.

Harmonix have announced the sequel to their hit Kinect dancing game, Dance Central. Dance Central 2 will allow players to finally dance side by side, as well as through a new single player campaign mode.
Friends can now team up in Perform It or go head-to-head in a simultaneous dance off within Dance Battle. The break-it-down practise and learning mode has also been redesigned.
Like Rock Band, Harmonix's other major franchise, all of the songs from the original Dance Central will be able to be imported into the sequel and, as a result, Dance Central 2 will launch with over 100 songs -- more than any other dancing game.
Launching later this year, here is just a few new songs featured in the game:
